PMGC Scholarship

Since 2012, the Potomac-Mecklenburg Garden Club has awarded a monetary scholarship to a graduating Jefferson County high school senior. The scholarship is funded by the proceeds from the garden club's annual plant sale and from donations.

About the Scholarship

  • The $1500 scholarship is awarded in May.
  • The student must be a Jefferson County, WV high school senior planning to attend college, in- or out-of-state.
  • The student must plan to major in some form of environmental concern: Horticulture, Landscape Design, Forestry, Botany, Agriculture, Conservation, Land Management, Environmental Studies, Geology or a related subject.

To Apply for the Scholarship

  • Deadline to apply is April 15.
  • Applicant must complete the full application. See your guidance counselor for the form, and for help in completing or reviewing the form. You can also download a copy here (PDF).
  • Include a 250-word original essay, typed. The essay should list the applicant’s goals, purpose for applying, describe significant extra-curricular and/or community service, and any background information that will help the Scholarship Committee. The document will be evaluated for content and clear expression.
  • Enclose an official record of high school academic grades.
